When the skin is pierced, it forms a wound that requires a healing period. The healing rate depends on factors like the piercing location, metal type and aftercare quality. Generally, deeper or larger wounds take longer to heal. Any traumatisation extends the healing period.
Routine Care:
Clean the piercing (excluding tongue, lip, or other mouth piercings) daily using a gentle, unscented soap during the healing phase. Begin by washing your hands with the soap. After rinsing, lather your hands again to apply soap to the piercing. Rinse thoroughly with water, ensuring no soap residue remains in the wound. After washing, gently pat the area around the piercing dry with a fresh towel or tissue. Try to keep the piercing dry for the remainder of the day. Unicura Antibacterial soap is a good solution for fresh piercing.
During the healing phase, remember to:
• Minimize touching the piercing.
• Avoid applying creams, ointments, or disinfectants like Sterilon® or Betadine®.
• Be cautious with hair products near a healing ear piercing.
• Refrain from covering the piercing with a bandage, unless needed briefly for physical activities.
• Steer clear of bubble baths, swimming, saunas, and steam rooms.
• Never attempt to remove the piercing yourself.
• Avoid traumatisation of the piercing.
• Maintain regular dental hygiene, using salt-based toothpaste and occasionally chlorhexidine mouthwash.
• Refrain from kissing and oral activities during the healing phase.
• Change your jewelry every 3-4 month's or come on professional cleaning every 2-3 month's.
